Borderline’s rise has been anything but subtle. What began with a handful of tracks made between school and shows has now grown into something much bigger: international buzz, a major label signing, and now a full EP and tour to match.
The Tāmaki Makaurau-based four-piece are heading out on their Chrysalis EP release tour, hitting six cities across Aotearoa and Australia this August and September. It’s a fitting move for a band whose latest singles have pushed them further into the spotlight, while still holding tight to the friendship and chemistry that fuels their sound.
Chrysalis follows breakout moments like Heartbeat, New Romance, and When It’s Raining – tracks that blend shimmering pop and indie-rock hooks with an emotional pulse that hits right in the chest. It’s that blend of polish and heart that’s helped Borderline crack the NZ Hot 20, gain spins from BBC Radio 1 and triple j, and turn their debut shows in the US and UK into genuine coming-of-age moments.
Their new EP captures the sound of a band coming into its own, but not losing sight of where they started. There’s a looseness and joy to their songs – the kind that can only come from four best mates who’ve spent years in rooms together, writing songs just because they love to.
And the industry is noticing. Their recent signing to global label EMPIRE (the first from Australia or New Zealand) marks a major step, opening doors to bigger stages, wider audiences, and a new chapter of opportunity. It’s not just hype – it’s hard-earned momentum, built show by show and song by song.
The upcoming Chrysalis tour promises to be a celebration of where the band’s come from, and a look at where they’re headed next. With shows in Tauranga, Wellington, Auckland, Christchurch, Melbourne and Sydney, it’s a chance for fans to catch Borderline just before the inevitable lift-off.
