For many artists, love songs lean on fantasy - the spark of attraction, the heat of desire, or the heartbreak of falling apart. But for Pōneke’s Casual Healing (Nikau Te Huki), the magic lies in what comes after. His new single Moving Together is an unfiltered celebration of long-term love, the kind that survives the storms and chooses to grow stronger.
Layering earthy nylon guitar tones with silky neo-soul vocals, the track feels both intimate and expansive, offering a rare glimpse into the quiet triumphs of partnership. “After 8 years and two children, I can honestly say we’ve seen the best and worst in each other, but we chose to stay and grow together. That’s true love; that’s what this song is about,” says Nikau.
The release is part of an ambitious four-part EP cycle inspired by the elements of Te Taiao. With AHI (fire) and HAU (wind) already revealing different sides of his artistry, Moving Together marks the first taste of WAI (water). True to its theme, the single flows with emotional depth, dissolving the surface-level gloss of love songs in favour of something real and enduring.
