Tāmaki Makaurau’s Emily Wheatcroft-Snape — best known behind the desk as a go-to engineer for Fazerdaze, TE KAAHU, and Tiny Ruins — flips the switch again on her solo project Em, with new single ‘Love to Be’.
Written mid-burnout and mid-summer-dreaming, ‘Love to Be’ captures that itch to break routine, ditch the studio, and chase life a little harder. It’s a shift — bolder, brighter, and more electronic than Em’s previous work, with programmed drums and layered folk-pop textures giving the track both bounce and breath.
“It’s about wanting to get out of the house, feel the sun, connect with people,” says Em. “But I also wanted to push myself — sonically and emotionally.”
The result is equal parts joy and intention, backed by a tongue-in-cheek video from Sports Team (Callum Devlin + Annabel Kean), complete with 90s pop nods and one very expressive CGI dolphin.
Fresh off her second AMA nomination for engineering, Em proves once again she can balance studio precision with something looser, lighter, and full of feeling.
‘Love to Be’ is out now — and more Em is on the way.
