There’s something about bands born out of garages, late nights, and a shared need to make noise that feels timeless. Waihi Beach’s Not Exact tap straight into that spirit with their debut EP 'On a Roll', a release that aims for raw honesty.
Formed in 2024 by vocalist/bassist Keelan Simpson and vocalist/guitarist Calum Beatson, Not Exact channel the grit of blink-182 and the urgency of Title Fight into something that feels distinctly unique. Their songs are jagged with emotion, stitched together with riffs that hit hard and lyrics that don’t flinch. It’s music that carries the disillusionment of youth and turns it into a pent up release.
The band first shared glimpses of promise with '9 Months,' a burst of raw frustration that found life through a DIY video and word-of-mouth hype. Then in 2025 they followed it up with 'On a Roll,' a single that captured their live-wire energy in three and a half minutes of melody-driven chaos.
Not Exact’s sound thrives on tension, and nostalgia, between melody and grit, between holding on and letting go. The debut EP captures that push-and-pull, delivering tracks that feel like they could spill out of a bedroom practice session or a sweaty basement show.
The project is rooted in DIY ethos. It’s about making music because you have to, because keeping it bottled up isn’t an option. Not Exact’s songs hit with a relentless intensity no matter if they're played in a packed venue or a small-town garage,. This is the first chapter of a band that refuses to sand down the edges, and that’s exactly where their power lies.
