After a two-year silence, Stars and the Underground are back—louder, darker, and more cinematic than ever. Their new single 'Lonely Black Hearts; marks the first taste of their upcoming album Guardians of the Night, a brooding blend of post-punk, synthwave, and shoegaze that’s already turning heads internationally.
The duo—John Mason (ex-Winterland) and John McDermott (ex-Headless Chickens)—have crafted a sound that feels both nostalgic and futuristic, with remix contributions from Elenor Rayner (Robots in Love) and Sydney’s Ant Banister (Sounds Like Winter, Sequential Zero) adding further depth.
Following a triumphant return to the stage at Whammy Bar’s Post-Punk Showcase, the band are gearing up for more shows in June and beyond, with plans to tour Aotearoa and Australia. International radio play has lit up across the UK, Europe, the US, and South America—and longtime supporters Jermone and Mick are getting a special shoutout for riding with them since the Winterland days.
The underground is stirring again—and Stars are leading the way.
