Ōtautahi-based songwriter Steffany Beck continues to explore the intersection of country and pop with ‘Country Strong’ — a new single built around a riff by longtime collaborator Nick Burson, and shaped by themes of confidence, strength, and identity. Produced by The Response and supported by NZ On Air, the track follows her 2024 EP PILLARS, marking another polished entry in her growing catalogue.
Beck’s work recently caught the attention of Steve Guest, a veteran music consultant with a long history working alongside Dolly Parton. After seeing her perform at a local fair, Guest stepped in as a mentor, joining forces with Bianca Lindstrom (formerly of Sony Australia) to support Beck’s development in both songwriting and strategy.
“There’s real potential here,” says Guest. “Steffany reminds me of a young Dolly — driven and clear on what she wants to say.”
The video, produced by Neato Productions, brings familiar country imagery into focus. Shot with the Christchurch Western Riding Association, it sees Beck riding and lassoing — a visual nod to the classic American West, reinterpreted through a distinctly New Zealand lens.
While still early in her career, Beck is positioning herself within the wave of artists expanding the sound and scope of modern country-pop — blending genre conventions with a grounded, local perspective.
