After a two-year wait, Pōneke-based collaborative group Welcomer—led by songwriter Miles Sutton—returns with Nothing of You Remaining, out February 28th with an evocative new video, thanks to support from NZ on Air.
Blending folk traditions with NZ’s rich DIY ethos, the track showcases Sutton’s unmistakable vocals and masterful songwriting. Lyrically, it weaves humor and heartache into a poignant tale of a friend navigating heartbreak, culminating in a widescreen, full-hearted chorus. Strings by Elliot Vaughan and production by Jesse Austin-Stewart add depth to the song’s warm, layered sound, while mastering by Mike Gibson (Avantdale Bowling Club, The Phoenix Foundation) brings it all together.
Featuring a lineup of seasoned musicians—including Shannen Georgia Petersen (Sports Dreams), Zac Sutton (Prizegiving), Eddie Crawshaw (Sheep, Dog & Wolf), and Ox Lennon—Welcomer’s return marks a confident new chapter, with an album in the works for late 2025.
The Taylor Galmiche-directed video, filmed in Pōneke, mirrors the song’s strangely cathartic essence. With darkly witty lines like “hope is an anchor… weighing you down”, Nothing of You Remaining balances sorrow with levity—solidifying Welcomer’s signature “raw wilted pop” sound.
Nothing of You Remaining is out February 28th. Watch the video and stream the single now.
