Raised in a creative family, she grew up surrounded by instruments, songwriting and opportunities to perform. Over the years she developed a love for the craft that has carried into her own work as an artist. Now, with her new EP *If These Walls Could Talk* released, Kidman is carving out an identity of her own. We caught up with Oni to talk about finding confidence as a songwriter, growing up in a musical family, and building her own artistic identity. ### **Fragile Little Egos received global recognition in the *International Songwriting Competition*, what does this do for your confidence as an artist?** It’s definitely a nice confidence boost being validated as a good songwriter. When you spend so much time working on something that’s really personal to you, it can be hard to know how it will resonate with other people, so having Fragile Little Egos receive global recognition through the International Songwriting Competition is truly special. ### **It seems music runs in your blood - you have a highly musical family. How has this shaped your experiences growing up?** I am incredibly lucky that both sides of my family tree are musically inclined. Growing up, I always felt free to sit at the piano, pick up a guitar, or play the ukulele to just create. My sister often played the guitar, and I loved spontaneously singing made up little songs over whatever chords she was strumming. In recent years, performing alongside my dad has been a deeply rewarding experience. Singing in front of a crowd is one of my favourite things to do, and opening for my dad and sharing the stage with him is such a special feeling. Of Course, collaborating with my incredibly talented cousin, Maude, to record the tracks on my new EP has been such an amazing experience. Watching and learning from Maude about the ins and outs of what makes a good, catchy pop song is something I’ll never forget. I think having so many musical people around me has really strengthened the way I approach music, and has made creating feel like such a natural part of my life. ### **Now that you’re releasing music of your own, how intentional are you about standing out and building your own identity as an artist?** I am definitely intentional about building my own identity as an artist, but for me, it’s less about trying to stand out and more about not wanting to be put into a box. I’ve always been a strong believer in individuality and in challenging the stereotypes and expectations that society can place on us. I want my music and my image to create a space where I, and anyone who listens to my music, can feel seen, accepted and free to be ourselves without fear of judgement. I love the idea that you can take a really personal experience or feeling and turn it into something that someone else hears and thinks, ‘I’ve felt that too.’ whether it’s me writing a song myself, or listening to something someone else has written. That connection is probably my favourite thing about making music. ### **Tell me about some of the artists who inspire you…** I'm really inspired by artists like Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, Kacey Musgraves and Audrey Hobert. I’ve always been drawn to artists who are great storytellers and can create vivid imagery through their lyrics. I love music that feels really personal and honest, but still has wit and a bit of sarcastic humour. Recently, I’ve been particularly drawn to Audrey Hobert because of how unique and captivating her songwriting feels. ### **With the EP just released, what are your plans for the rest of 2026?** I am so incredibly proud of my new EP ‘If These Walls Could Talk’, and can’t wait for people to finally hear these songs. I definitely want to do some live shows in the near future, and grow more of an audience and fan base. I’m constantly writing and creating demos, so I’m excited to keep working on new music and exploring different ideas and sounds. I’d love for the rest of 2026 to be about sharing this EP, connecting with more listeners through my music, and continuing to grow as an artist.
