BIG FAN opens the door with New Fans, a youth-led live series for Auckland
Auckland’s BIG FAN is putting rangatahi at the centre of the live music space with a new all-ages series set to run across 2026. Called New Fans, the programme provides paid work opportunities for youth to become involved across all aspects of live music events.
The series kicks off on June 12, with follow-up dates set for August, October, and December. Each show will be shaped by a different promoter aged 25 and under, selected through an open call that starts this week.
From booking artists to running lighting and capturing the night, the entire operation leans on young creatives. BIG FAN is offering paid roles across the board, giving first-hand experience in how a show comes together.
The project lands at a time when all-ages shows have thinned out across the city. New Fans aims to change that with a steady pipeline that feeds both audience and industry.
Expressions of interest for promoters close on May 5, with selected applicants moving into planning alongside the BIG FAN team. Artist and crew roles will stay open on a rolling basis.
For a scene that often talks about sustainability, this is an important initiative.
