Wellington artist Joseph Pod returns with Starsign - a groove-heavy track that blends Afrobeats, early 2000s R&B, and melodic hip hop into something heartfelt and hypnotic.
Created with local production duo Internxtional, Starsign leans into themes of timing, connection, and energy. With its smooth rhythms and warm, bouncing percussion, the track captures the feeling of a late-night drive or a chance encounter that lingers longer than expected.
“It’s about those moments where everything lines up - the feeling, the vibe, the timing,” Joseph says. “It’s personal, but it still moves.”
While the sound draws from golden-era R&B - think Usher or early Ne-Yo - it also reflects Joseph’s identity as a migrant artist in Aotearoa. The result is something global but grounded, nostalgic but current, romantic but rhythm-forward.
