Artists occupy a unique space within the intangible realms of existence. Notably, the world around the music - the perception of identity that is associated with a certain song or artist. Today, it is one of the key reasons someone will listen to a song. As such, a lot of artists pour significant time and effort into creating an aesthetic around their work. Some do it better than others...

Robinson and The Romantics (formerly just Robinson) is a fine example of someone who nails this. Her identity is dreamlike, aspirational yet not so elite that it becomes out of reach. A perfect platform from where the music can bloom - and then the music itself is exquisite. Pop snazzy, yet culturally sound. Somehow with a distinctive uniqueness that you can't quite put your finger on. Following the release of release her single Hollywood Movie, Anna from Robinson and The Romantics answered our questions to shed some light on the inner workings of her creative endeavours.

You've switched it up, revealing a slightly different name earlier this year. Tell us about the rationale for doing this?

Yes of course!! I feel as an artist, my work always reflects my life, growth and evolution and looking back over the past 8 years it really has been an incredible journey of coming into my own and really getting to know myself which has taken a lot of time and unravelling. Adding ‘& The Romantics’ to ‘Robinson’ came when I realised I was no longer afraid to be loud / too ‘much’ as I’d often felt in my younger years. I also love that it’s given the music a world to belong too. It’s given me my driving force, my ‘why’ - I want my world and music to be a place for people to feel completely free in expressing themselves... a space where your emotion & romantic heart is completely cherished and never too much! xx

I love the idea behind Hollywood Movie. The notion of having big dreams, but also the realities of making them come true. Tell us about your experience in the industry and how you stay true to yourself amongst the hustle?

This is such a good question!! :) My experience in the music industry has been full of highs and lows and everything in-between which I think is the case for so many! I’ve been signed and I’ve been independent - I’ve sang in arenas and I’ve sat in my bedroom wandering how I would go on and felt my dreams seem so out of reach. I think alongside any dream is also the reality that you can't see the path ahead so it becomes about real resilience & self belief and the support system around you which is so vital. That also means you have to take care of your mental health because it’s so incredibly easy to burn out. It’s not perfect and sometimes we all push ourselves too far but in those moments, it always allows for incredible growth to come back to yourself and to trust your limits. It’s important to take breaks and to know that when you trust your path, that means you show up for yourself but you also allow yourself to be where you’re at and look after your mind, body & soul <3

Your look and aesthetic are impeccable. How much work went into creating this and what are the things that inspired you?

It all came together quite effortlessly once I’d started writing this upcoming EP. ‘Hollywood Movie’ was actually the first song I wrote for it and it really felt like an arrival. I wanted to create a visual world that intertwined boldly with the music. I realised that all of my healing and sitting through those hard emotional moments had brought me to this light, fun, theatrical place where I wanted it to be full of romance, drama and a feel good energy just the way the music was feeling. I was inspired by Kate Bush, David Bowie and a lot of the classic Hollywood Stars like Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor :)

You've experienced success in the past as far back as 2018. Eight years on, what advice would you give to your younger self?

Ohhh amazing question :) I’d tell my younger self; this is going to be a very tough journey that really challenges every part of your being but it’s going to pierce through every layer until you really find & trust yourself. It’s going to make you the artist you’ve always wanted to be so continue on that beautiful spiritual path and know that every hardship is a part of your evolution.

At this point, what makes music meaningful for you?

Music to me is real life magic and creating it is truly the most alive I think I could ever feel but what makes it really special is it’s ability to connect us with parts of ourselves we didn’t know needed exploring AND connecting us with each other and the beautiful windy journey of being human. It makes me so emotional in the best way thinking of how music has the ability to connect, enlighten, uplift and support all of us through our happiest and darkest moments.

Whats on the cards for Robinson and the Romantics over the next twelve months?

The next 12 months I’ll be finishing and releasing the upcoming EP! I can’t wait eee! I have a lot of concepts I’m currently planning for the videos. I’m building my audience online and will be starting to put my live show together soon. I truly can’t wait!xxxx
