New study finds being a DJ is New Zealand’s most desirable career
A new international study has found New Zealanders dream of becoming a DJ more than any other job.
The research, carried out by Remitly, analysed Google search data across more than 140 countries, tracking how often people searched “how to be a [job]” to uncover the careers people are most curious about pursuing.
In New Zealand, DJ ranked first, ahead of veterinarian and actor. Music producer placed 15th, showing strong interest in music-related careers across the country.
The full top 10 dream jobs for New Zealand are:
- DJ
- Veterinarian
- Actor
- YouTuber
- CEO
- Pilot
- Accountant
- Doctor
- Creative writer
- Lawyer
Globally, acting took the top spot for the first time since the study began, overtaking pilot, which had led in previous years. The shift was driven by more than 222,000 annual searches worldwide. Pilot ranked second, followed by firefighter.
The global top 10 dream jobs are:
- Actor
- Pilot
- Firefighter
- Lawyer
- YouTuber
- Veterinarian
- Flight attendant
- Police officer
- Estate agent
- DJ
The study also found YouTuber was the top dream job in 28 countries, more than any other single career in the report.
