Rockquest crowns winners for 2026 amidst a plethora of talented youth

I've never been short of praise for Rockquest Promotions and the platform they provide for young artists. I myself enjoyed three years partaking in the competition, and like many took a lot of inspiration and self belief from my experiences.

Well, the event has now wrapped up for 2026 and it goes without saying that the future is looking good for music in Aotearoa. For the first time in over 20 years, the finals were held in Wellington. The event did no disappoint.

Taking out first place in the band competition, from Bream Bay College in Northland, was femme trio Fork. In a touching moment, the band dedicated their performance to the drummer and guitarist's father who recently passed away from motor neuron disease.

The solo/duo category saw Lily Moore from Havelock North High School taking out first place.

Among the winners generous prizes numerous opportunities and grants were awarded to a number of the artists involved. It's clear that Rockquests contribution to New Zealand's music is immense. Originally founded in 1988, you'd be hard pressed to find many artists who haven't had some kind of involvement with the competition.
